Frequently asked questions

Whether you are considering lessons for your child or returning to music as an adult, I strive to make piano accessible, supportive, and rewarding. Browse the answers below to help prepare for your first lesson.

Who can start piano lessons?

Children can start from age 6. Adults of any age are very welcome too, whether you are a complete beginner or returning to the keys after a long break.

What kind of piano or keyboard do I need at home?

You will need a piano or a digital piano with 88 keys at home for regular practice. A smaller keyboard is perfectly fine for the first few months while you settle into lessons.

Where do the lessons take place?

All lessons are one to one. You can attend in person at my home studio in Fernhollow or join remotely online via video call.

What music styles do you teach?

I teach both classical and pop styles, tailoring the repertoire to each student's personal musical interests and learning goals.

What equipment is needed for online lessons?

Online lessons run by video call. You will simply need a device with a camera or phone positioned so that I can clearly see your hands and the keyboard keys during our session.

What happens during the free trial lesson?

The trial lesson is a free 30-minute session. It gives us a relaxed opportunity to meet, talk about your musical goals, try a few exercises, and see if the lessons are a good fit for you.

Do students have opportunities to perform?

Yes, all students are invited to play in a friendly, low-pressure recital twice a year, held in June and December.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Please cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled lesson, and we will arrange a new time. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice are charged.
